RAISED VS GROUND FEEDERS!

Food is food, as a Mustang I don't care how I eat my meals as long as I eat.
If the only way to get food was to balance on Lola's back and do a rain dance, I would be more than willing to dazzle the clouds with my sweet moves!

However, Mommy is a bit more picky. She over complicates EVERYTHING!

"This feeder is too tall."

"This feeder is too long."

Blah Blah Blah I could go on forever but I think this is a good time to transition into today's topic...RAISED VS GROUND FEEDERS!

In our house Lola, Mara and I have three of both types of feeders.

3 Raised Cattle Feeders

and 3 Ground Feeders

(even though I spilled my hay on the ground on purpose)

Now in order to understand my Mommy's point of view, you need to know that us horses were designed to lower our head when we eat. We are made with the ability regulate blood to our heads and necks while we graze.

That being said, My Mom prefers that I eat out of the ground feeders as it is more natural for my head to be down when I eat, not up.

Another thing she doesn't like about cattle feeders is that it makes it easier for me to rub off my pretty forelock and also inhale the hay dust (which can be unhealthy).

She just thinks that

"If God made horses to eat off the ground than humans should consider that it might be best to keep it that way."

Sometimes (if it is particularly dusty or windy) Mom will take the hay out of our raised feeders and put it on the ground.

This makes her feel better, a raised feeder can also cause aching in our necks and backs as well as allow us to get dust, hay and bugs into our nostrils, eyes and ears more easily which can sometimes lead to discomfort and even medical issues.

The awkward position Raised Feeders can put little horsies like me in

Of course there are down sides to ground feeders as well.

For instance, we tend to ingest more sand than we would in a ground feeder, which our tummies cannot digest and can cause colic.

They also make it easier for us to contaminate our feed with poopies and peepee (EEWWWW!)

But to Mommy, when weighing the pros and cons, thinks that they favor ground feeders and that's what she would choose.

Obviously there are many different types of feeders on the market.

When you humans purchase these products, make sure you take the time to consider not only what is best for you but also whats best for us horsies!

Lots Of Kisses!
