MOOO-TIFUL MOUNTAINS!

Image
Last time I talked to you guys, I told you about our first pony hike! Yesterday, Auntie Oni and Cousin Ranger joined me and Mommy on ANOTHER ONE! Auntie Oni & Cousin Ranger! Mommy and Auntie also took turns snapping pictures of each other. Across the street from The Ranch we have a HUGE  mountain pasture where the momma cows carry and raise their babies! It travels and connects with the trails that travel down into the park...or so Mommy tells me. Anyway, I had never been on that side of the road or up in the trails. Mommy thought it would be fun to take me on an adventure and see how I reacted to new and possibly scary situations. So we walked across the street, through the gate and up the hill where the cows were resting. We said hi to the Momma Moo Moos... A few of the cows! COW! I LOVE COWS! Auntie and Mommy snapped some pictures of each other! FILLY PHOTO BOMB! PRETTY ME! And as we walked up and down the mountains...

PONY HIKE!

Something that is VERY important when dealing with any animal (especially prey animals like us horses) is making sure that we are enjoying what we are doing, and also occasionally take some time to just relax and have fun! Being a young, flawlessly beautiful filly, I personally benefit greatly from a few days of bonding time with Momma here and there, in fact they are my most favorited things ever! BUT many humans don't realize that it is also very important for us horses to engage in group activities with other equines. I get along with basically everyone! So ,  Mommy sets up play dates where I get to run around with another horse (like I did with Papa Pollo). Obviously not all horses will be as open to meeting new horses as I am so you might have to get creative when coming up with ways for us to socialize. Here are some LOW STRESS ways to Socialize your horse while giving us a break from the demands of a training schedule. 1) Trail Rides 2) In hand obstacle cou...

WELCOME GRANNY M!

Originally, the plan was that this post would be about WEEK #2 of bringing a horse back into work. BUT! Lola tore both her front shoes off, ripped a chunk out of her footie and is currently having ANOTHER few days of rest! UGH! However...That's OK , because today we can talk about our new room mate! Over the past few weeks we have had two horses stay in our "guest house". The first one, Taylor, a paint, decided to move into a one horse "barn-apartment" but the second one, an incredibly sweet and gentle old mare called Mystery has stayed. Today was the first day Mystery joined us in the main house! Normally Lola can be a bit bratty to newbies... Mystery saying hi to us! Us having a conference, deciding if we are going to be nice. But she seemed to understand Mystery's age and temperament didn't make her a threat to her queen bee status so we've all gotten along quite well! For about hhhmmm....30 seconds I wasn't sur...

TAMING MY MANE!

Image
Now one thing you should know about my mane is that it is very high maintenance, just like Mommy's. Weather changes, humidity, rain, wind, you name it it affects it.  The most common mess, is frizzing... LOTS AND LOTS of frizzing! Originally when I came home to live with Mom, I was extremely sensitive and didn't like my mane touched, I would snort and jump around because the slightest pressure on the hairs would frighten me!  "No touchie, leave my lovely locks alone! Go away Momma!" but since it got so tangled so quickly, leaving it alone completely wasn't an option.  SO ...Mommy decided to trim it short to make it more maintainable while also limiting the amount of time she would have to spend messing with it since it made me nervous.  She also went to the dollar store and bought me a soft bristled hair brush which didn't pull so hard on the hairs as a normal brush.  Once I was OK with the soft brush, she re-introduced the regular bru...

WEEK #1 - EASY DOES IT!

Image
As most of you already know, Lola (Girl Squad member, My bestfriend & Nanny) has been dealing with a recent leg ouchie. It has been almost a month of yucky medication and tedious wound care, but today (finally) Mommy decided Lola can OFFICIALLY start to go back to work! Lola, happy to back to work! We celebrated her progress with one of our super duper stunning Girl Squad magazine cover worthy poses!... BOOM ! FLAWLESS !...Lola looks good too! ANYWAY ...today I thought I would share with you how Mommy goes about bringing a horse back into work after an injury or an extended period of time off. We will focus on the first week of her rehab program. I have seen her do it before with many horses, one of whom is Papa Pollo. The first seven days back under saddle are very important to us horsies' health, fitness and mindset. If you rush it we can get re-injured or become "sour" to work because we feel overwhelmed. Of course there are ma...

AIN'T FOOLIN THIS STANG!

Image
Today I shall tell you a story that is both very scary! And incredibly unbelievable! But I swearzies! I can't make this up people! It really happened! Are you sitting down? Ok, here we go! A few days ago I was introduced to the scariest monster I have ever seen in my whole life! It was big and had wings that flapped opened and closed, with a long talon that comes down and grabs hold of humans' hands! Mommy called it an "umbrella" and tried to convince me it was perfectly safe! But she is fooled by it's light weight and waterproof-ness! I, with my super mustang senses, am too smart to be lured into a false sense of safety! I have been keeping my eye on the Brella and snorting at it every few minutes to make sure it knows to stay away! Mommy "teaching" Barbie that "brella" isn't scary!...IDIOTS! Today Mommy let brella watch me in turn out! I stayed over in the corner and snorted at him for about 20 minutes! HA! I ...

KICK IN THE BUTT...LITERALLY!

A few weeks ago, Momma took Lola to a Gymkhana for the weekend, There was no room for me to go with them so that meant I would be left all alone in our house. BY MYSELF!! For like two whole days!! (That's like 2,000 hours people)! Well neither Mommy or Me really liked that idea and as long as Lola was promised food and attention, she didn't care. In fact she said and I quote "I love you kid but some times your a total pain in the rump and a little break will be nice." UM...RUDE!!! Let's get some stuff straight: 1) I'm super duper adorable and snuggily, how can anyone possibly think I was a pain!!??, 2) I am the coolest roommate EVER! I even give my Roommates a job! They're my nannies! who wouldn't want to have the great honor of getting to tell me to "knock it off that's annoying!" Every ten minutes? That's a very special employment opportunity!! But whatever, I'm getting distracted! Back to the story. Whispe...
