THE GIRL SQUAD!

Image
Hello Again! Yesterday I posted about bits, pumpkins and Lola. Today we are going to focus more on Lola (and my new Squad)! Over the last month my Mommy has begun taking care of and exercising my roommate Lola. Me and My Roommate Lola Lola is a well trained barrel and gymkhana horse, but she she hasn't been under saddle in over a year due to her human's slow recover from an injury. The lovely Lola Mommy wanted to get more into barrel racing, Lola needed a confident rider who didn't mind hard work...it was a perfect match. Or at least we all hoped so! Lola's person told Mommy that they would all know immediately if Lola was going to like her or not. Lola likes to pick favorites, she does it with both horsies and humans. Luckily, I am one of her favorite horses...if not her favorite, so I had nothing to worry about. Mommy however, ad gotten along with Lola fine on the ground, but had never been on her back. Mommy's Perspective ...

SECOND TIME SUNDAY!

Image
So, this morning was the second time I have ever worn a bit, this time Mommy put it on the headstall our friend Terry is letting her use during my training ("my" headstall) which fit much better than the old one we borrowed yesterday! I will go into greater detail about all that in a minute but first I have a formal complaint to file about the unspoken rule popular among horse owners that they get to pick our clothes without our input! It is completely unfair! I don't go to Mommy's house and pick out random outfits she has to wear! IT'S HORRIBLE! Today for example, Mommy put on my green halter and a pair of old, orange, bell boots! My disaster of an outfit today! Ummmm.....are you sick or something Mommy? I looked like a frick'n pumpkin 🎃! I tried to convince Mommy to change my boots while she was putting them on this morning. But here's how that went. "Hey Momma, What the heck do you think you doing!?" "I'm puttin...

SOMETHING NEW SATURDAY!

Image
Hello, As you may have guessed by the title of this post, today I experienced something new! But come to think of it...I have crossed a few other mile stones this week as well. For example, on Thursday I wore a big girl saddle pad for the first time ever! Which was a big deal! But today's mile stone trumps Thursday's! DRUM ROLL PLEASE......... Can you guess what it is?...............I WORE MY FIRST BIT! You see, Mommy bought me a raw sweet iron, 5", loose ring, snaffle bit by Weaver Leather off the Internet but since it has not arrived yet she asked a friend if they had a plain snaffle we could borrow. Would you believe our luck, they did!! Mommy's friend Kim, handed her an old headstall with the bit attached to it and asked if it would work. "I don't know let's find out" Mommy responded. She headed over to where I was standing patiently at the tie rail (like a little angel pony), with the headstall draped over her arm....

EQUINE BODY CONDITION!

Image
Hello Everyone! Sorry I haven't blogged in a while, I've been busy being adorable and stealing all the other horses hugs and kisses...hehe! Lately Mommy has been telling me that I am starting to look kind of chubby...😳! UH...RUDE! So I decided that today's post is going to be all about the correct body condition for us horses to prove to Mommy that I AM NOT CHUBBY! Now, of course all horses should be cared for with the three correct components: Regular Exercise Proper Nutrition Correct Health Care When a horse is cared for properly then it should be much easier for our Humans' to maintain our condition. There is a widely excepted measuring system known as the Body Condition Scale.   (Diagram found on Google) This group of diagrams are used to demonstrate both the healthy and unhealthy weights and conditions of a horse's body. By comparing your horse's condition to those pictured, you can determine which "score" to...
