TRAINING HALTERS!
Some people use halters for recreational purposes, and others use them for ground training.
Personally, I have three halters.
One for training

My training halter is in charge of teaching me new things! It is what I wear when Mommy and I have a training session.
There are many different types of training halters and each are available in many different materials.
some nylon, some rope, some leather, some paracord, etc.
The brand and style Mommy and I use is The Dually Halter by Monty Roberts.

It is a pressure and release system. Pressure is applied to the bridge of my nose (not my head) and as soon as I do what is desired, the pressure is immediately released.
The Dually has a head stall and nose band made of nylon. The nose band is designed to sit higher on my face than in the style of the typical nylon halter.
This is so that a very soft, very light weight rope made of weaved nylon can be threaded through two enlarged buckles set below the nose band. On both ends of this rope are two large "training rings" that can be attached to lead lines, long lines, reins, etc.
NOTE: It is important that humans understand how to fit and use this halter correctly. If they do not, it will not work properly or produce the desired effect.

Of course there are other types of training halters, but Mommy's found that all the horses she works with, seem to be the most comfortable and learn the quickest when using this halter.
Two other popular types of training halters include.
ROPE HALTERS

The Nose bands can be made from a number of materials such as paracord, rawhide, leather, etc.
It is SO important that ALL halters be fitted properly.
HYBRID HALTERS
Hybrid halters are usually a mix of both the rope halter and a plain nylon halter.
If we were to be technical, my Dually halter is a very unique type of hybrid halter.
The typical hybrid halter has a head stall made of nylon while the nose band (and sometimes the throat latch) is made of rope.
Much like the plain rope halter, the hybrid halter has pressure points caused by knots in the nose band over the nasal cavities.
Of course there are dozens of other types of training halters on the market and those listed above are only those known to be the most popular.
In conclusion, make sure you understand how to use a halter before beginning your training. No matter what type of halter you have, if not used correctly you can cause us horses more harm then good.
Happy Training, you got this!
Most rope halters have strategically placed knots over pressure points on our heads.
These pressure points are usually located over our nasal cavities, on our polls, etc.
In Mommy's opinion, this type of halter is a bit harsh.
When weight is applied to the rope halter the pressure points can sometimes cause pain and even rubs.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with using a rope halter as long as you keep in mind that if not used correctly (as with all halters) you can cause some damage.
It is SO important that ALL halters be fitted properly.
