TAMING MY MANE!

Now one thing you should know about my mane is that it is very high maintenance, just like Mommy's. Weather changes, humidity, rain, wind, you name it it affects it.

The most common mess, is frizzing...LOTS AND LOTS of frizzing! Originally when I came home to live with Mom, I was extremely sensitive and didn't like my mane touched, I would snort and jump around because the slightest pressure on the hairs would frighten me!

"No touchie, leave my lovely locks alone! Go away Momma!"

but since it got so tangled so quickly, leaving it alone completely wasn't an option.

SO...Mommy decided to trim it short to make it more maintainable while also limiting the amount of time she would have to spend messing with it since it made me nervous.

She also went to the dollar store and bought me a soft bristled hair brush which didn't pull so hard on the hairs as a normal brush.

Once I was OK with the soft brush, she re-introduced the regular brush, and since I now knew what she wanted to do with it, I've been fine ever since.

BUT...The last time Mommy trimmed my mane was a few months ago, and the idiot sneezed mid snip which caused the top half of my mane to be shorter than the rest, only by a little bit...but still...ewww!

I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE INSISTED SHE USE KIDDIE SCISSORS!

Obviously, neither one of us were super happy about that, but Mommy decided we would just leave it alone and let it grow out a bit.

Well, fast forward 2-3 months and I start to notice that the shorter part of my mane was trying to sneakily start growing on the left side of my neck, while originally it all grew to the right.

At the beginning of last week Mommy decided to finally pull her act together and try to help me fix my hair disaster...ABOUT TIME SINCE IT'S HER FAULT ANYWAY!

first we tried banding the top half down on the right side to keep it in place.

My bands

But the bands fell out because my hair was too "springy" and uncooperative. So Mommy tried putting in braids. She wasn't sure if I would be OK with the braids so she only put in a few.

My "trial" braids

These seemed to work pretty well, and they looked really pretty.

It bothered Mommy that only part of my mane was braided, because when it comes to her horses, she's a perfectionist. So yesterday she braided the rest of my mane as well.

My whole mane braided for the very first time!

LOOK HOW CUTE I AM!

Take that Lola! Your not the only one that can rock braids!

Finally, we have settled on a way to tame my mane that seems to actually work.

So remember, if something doesn't go the way you want it to...there's a way to make the best of it. My mane was all over the place but Mommy's using the maintenance of it to teach me how to tolerate braiding. That could be handy at shows in the future...and lets face it I LOOK ADORABLE IN THEM TOO LOL!
